The GTDB species “Chlamydophila corallus” is based on “Candidatus Chlamydia corallus” Taylor-Brown et al. 2017. However, the author made a Latin gender mistake by using the masculine corallus with the feminine Chlamydia. Candidate List 1 from 2020 fixes that mistake with “Candidatus Chlamydia coralli” corrig. Taylor-Brown et al. 2017.
As Chlamydophila is also feminine, it might be a good idea to use coralli in GTDB too.
Hello,
Thank you for your suggestion!
The spelling Candidatus Chlamydia coralli is indeed grammatically correct, and the new combination ‘Chlamydophila corallus’ can be corrected accordingly. Since Candidatus taxon names still have no standing in nomenclature (but pro-standing), even after the approval of the new Section 10, both spelling versions are acceptable. However, as we aim for consistency and alignment with other public databases, we are planning to coordinate the application of the corrected names from the Candidatus list in collaboration with NCBI. Please note that this can only be implemented in our next release, and we apologise for any inconvenience.
Thank you!
Best wishes,
Masha
