Hey All,
Thanks for your amazing work on the GTDB! I just wanted to let you know that we validated a genus name (and type species) for JAAZJW01 in SeqCode (Syntrophacetatiphaga salishiae (Ts) | SeqCode Registry). Our type species genome (Syntrophacetatiphaga salishiae) is circular and has 3 copies of rRNAs, which are absent in all available genomes for JAAZJW01 in the current GTDB. I would like to request that the genus name JAAZJW01 be changed to Syntrophacetatiphaga to maintain consistency between SeqCode and GTDB.
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Ryan Ziels
Hi. Thank you for your message. We update GTDB annually in April and pull in all new SeqCode type material at that time. Thank you for your efforts to provide a validated name for this genus.
Hi Donovan,
Thanks for the reply. The reason that I raised this issue now was that this genus name was validated in SeqCode last October, 2025; yet the recent (April 2026) update to the GTDB did not capture the name change. I am wondering if it will likely make it in the next update, or if there is another reason that it wasn’t pulled into GTDB?
Thanks again,
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
We start putting together GTDB releases in September which includes pulling data from SeqCode. Nomenclature is a continually moving target so we pick a date and pull data from all third party resources at the same time.
Cheers,
Donovan
